DEAN SILSON
It is with deepest regret that
we must announce the untimely, tragic death of Dean Silson on Sunday 5th
April. He was 38.
Most
will remember him for his recent successful days at Chapeltown W.M.C. although
some will remember the teenager that began his snooker days in Stocksbridge at
the Red Grouse and the
Victory Club (long hair, baseball cap back to front).
That was over 20 years ago and
his style of play didn`t alter from then to now, known for his attacking game,
never refusing an opportunity, and his team mates at Chapeltown reflect on his
famous “Silson head scratch” when he missed an easy shot.
Dean played the game to a high
standard recording his highest match break of 120 at an open tournament at
Willie Thorne`s Snooker Club in Leicester. He also played for Sheffield No.2
team in the Yorkshire Inter City League on several occasions, and never let the
team down.
In the Sheffield League he was
part of the Chapeltown team that successfully won the Staffordshire Teams K.O.
for the second time, on Thursday 2nd April.
Dean loved his heavy metal, a
doting father to 2 year old Katie and a loving husband to Alison.
A gentle giant, a true
trustworthy man, respected by all his friends.
All who knew Dean will have
fond memories of the life they shared with him. He will be truly missed. What a
guy, a friend to everyone.
Dean`s funeral service will be
at Grenoside Crematorium on Friday 17th April at 11.45am.
Our thoughts and best wishes
go to wife Alison, daughter Katie and all his family.
We would also like to extend
our sincere condolences to Dean`s team mates at Chapeltown at this very sad
time.
ALAN DUNGWORTH
It
is with deepest regret that the League must announce that Alan Dungworth died on
Monday 23rd March. He was 57
Alan decided to retire
from League Snooker last season but until then was a regular player in the
Handsworth W.M.C. No.2 side.
The side itself has
played together for many years dating back to the early 80`s when the League
went down to 11 divisions.
In the 1996/97 Handsworth
W.M.C. No.2 finished 3rd in the B Division to gain promotion to the
premier flight in League Snooker, an achievement Alan made a substantial
contribution to.
He qualified for the C
Division player of the year as recent as 2006, the team having won the C
Division in that year. The following year, he and his partner, Dennis Blueitt
reached the venue stage of the Proctor Cup.
His team mates describe
Alan as a witty man and a reliable and dedicated member of their team who will
be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Our thoughts and best
wishes go to Alan`s family and close friends at this sad time.
